Five unique lifestyle stores in Hong Kong

Treat yourself to one-of-a-kind treasures

Words: Rachel Read

If you read our articles about the best homegrown fashion labels and accessories designers, you’ll already know that there’s more to Hong Kong shopping than big name brands and run-of-the-mill chain stores – and the same is true for finding quirky lifestyle goods, too. If you’re looking for stylish independent brands and items with a sprinkle of something special, here are a few of our favourite unique lifestyle stores in Hong Kong.

Chateau Zoobeetle
This très chic two-floor boutique could easily pass as a luxurious Parisian apartment –  meaning it boasts the kind of spacious square-footage you thought simply didn’t exist in Sheung Wan anymore. In addition to the founders’ own brand of exquisite leather goods, Chateau Zoobeetle carries a sophisticated selection of ready-to-wear fashion, accessories, cosmetics, books and vinyl records all infused with Gallic flair. The store is also home to a relaxed bar that serves up quality French wine, cheese and charcuterie, making this the perfect spot to soak up a few hours of joie de vivre.

Pimary
If you’re looking to while away a whole day in truly lovely style, you’ve come to the right place. The antithesis to anonymous mall stores, Pimary is set far from the madding crowds in a light and airy two-floor vintage house in Tai Po, complete with a café, herb garden and open rooftop. This tranquil treasure trove is dedicated to celebrating a sustainable lifestyle, stocking a beautifully-curated range of artisanal homeware and all-natural beauty brands that combine eco-conscious values with Pinterest-ready aesthetics – including gorgeously scented botanical soap bars, colourful bamboo crockery and whimsical animal cushions.

Parc Antique & Lifestyle
Kwun Tong is something of a goldmine for independent stores – if you know where to look that is. Parc Antique & Lifestyle is no exception; tucked away on the tenth floor of one of the area’s old-school industrial buildings, this place is a veritable Aladdin’s cave for French antique furniture, vintage knick-knacks and other turn-of-the-century inspired lifestyle goods – think typewriters, teacups and bouquets of dried flowers. There’s also a lovely café dishing up dainty desserts served on vintage crockery, complemented by a stellar coffee selection (you can even buy bags of the coffee beans to brew at home). With a space this pretty, it’s no surprise that Parc has become a popular venue for engagement photoshoots… and even the actual weddings themselves!

Klondike
Proof that small can be beautiful, boutiques don’t come much more charming than this little gem tucked away in Sheung Wan. With a vibe that’s part cute Japanese zakka store, part quaint antiques shop, Klondike celebrates tried-and-true classics rather than passing trends. Vintage lovers will fall head over heels with Klondike’s enchantingly eclectic selection of small-label lifestyle goods, out-of-the-ordinary handicrafts and home décor discoveries – with everything from antique crystal glasses and divinely scented candles to organic chocolate and hand-embroidered art pieces available.

Thorn and Burrow
You might not guess it from its unassuming location on the first floor of a nondescript building in Sai Ying Pun, but this quirky “texture and textiles” boutique is stuffed full of all things gorgeous. Stocking handmade and independently-designed homewares and accessories sourced from around the globe, Thorn and Burrow is the place to come for colourful statement pieces that stand out from the crowd – including eye-catching Moroccan rugs, feathery African Juju hat wall hangings, Vietnamese seagrass storage baskets, unique Hong Kong-inspired artwork and soft Turkish towels in every shade under the sun.
