Your insider’s guide to Hong Kong

Healthy Lunch Places in Central

As Hong Kong’s busy urbanites become increasingly health conscious, travellers to the city will find a greater choice of healthy dining options in the Central business district. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely catch-up with friends, a refined business lunch or a quick bite to go after hitting the gym, you’ll find delicious and healthy meals just a stone’s throw from The Landmark Mandarin Oriental.

For a working lunch: Arcane
Helmed by Michelin-starred chef Shane Osborne, Arcane is an elegant, 36-seater fine-dining restaurant with a commitment to sourcing the freshest, finest ingredients and using preparation methods that allow their natural flavours to shine through. On Mondays, the restaurant goes vegetarian with a seven-course degustation meal that includes poached taiyouran egg with broccolini, Japanese winter tomato with spiced aubergine, sour cream and soft herb salad, and crapudine beetroot with pickled black radish and wasabi leaves. Not in town on a Monday? All the vegetarian dishes are available a la carte through the week.

For locavore salad boxes: Fresca
Did you know that Hong Kong has a small but thriving organic agricultural scene? One of the city’s original farm-to-table cafes, Fresca offers a popular salad bar using ingredients sourced from local farms. Many of the offerings are vegan or gluten-free, and you’ll find both western and Asian-style salads available, from the popular Korean bean paste tofu and Vietnamese rice noodle salad to cashew cream coleslaw and carrot, apple and walnut. Be sure to save room for one of their low-sugar, gluten-free steamed muffins.

For a protein hit: Pololi
Poke bowls – Hawaiian-style marinated raw fish served on top of rice and salad – have been a hit with Hong Kong’s gym-goers. Fresh and delicious, poke bowls deliver a hit of protein that’s high on flavour and low on heaviness in the city’s sweltering summer months. Pololi is Central’s original poke shack, with a laid-back beach bar vibe. Flavours change daily, but signatures include the original spicy blend, wasabi miso and fragrant Thai-style with lemongrass.
