Your insider’s guide to Hong Kong

A Q&A with Rita Ora

The British pop star talks music, fashion and travel

1. When did you realise you wanted to be a singer?
I always loved singing, but once I was at Sylvia Young Theatre School surrounded by talent, I knew that I could sing and I just wanted to make my dreams a reality.

2. What is your new album about? What are its inspirations and influences?
I feel so proud and I’ve never been more confident of something in my life because it came from my heart and so genuine and it’s like a piece of my heart is now in the world. My inspiration and influences for this album came from the experiences I’ve had maturing as a woman and collaborating with the friends I’ve gained along the way.

3. How important is fashion to you and how would you describe your style?
Fashion has always been a passion of mine. It’s another way for me to express myself and show my individuality. My style is a collaboration of my experiences, inspirations and a dash of fun.

4. You’ve performed at several charity concerts and spoken in support of Syrian child refugees. Is there a specific cause or issue that you are currently focused on?
As a refugee, charity is so important to me. I will always help in any way that I can, especially for causes that are close to my heart such as amfAR , London Fire Relief, and Channel Aid.

5. You have a heavy travel schedule. Do you have routines to stay fit and healthy on the road?
While traveling I always make sure to workout everyday! I love staying fit and it gives me energy to power through a vigorous schedule.

6. What are your travel essentials?
I always bring a resistant band, essential oils, and headphones with me while traveling. Also a great book and sunglasses are a must for flights!

7. Now that you’re almost a regular visitor to Hong Kong, what are your impressions of it? Any favourite discoveries?
I absolutely love and adore Hong Kong! I enjoy the culture, food and beautiful landscape. One of my favourite discoveries has been taking the tram up to the peak and admiring the amazing view of Hong Kong.
